Kellen seems to get the hiccups every day. So, I asked Jeremy to grab the Flip camera to capture it. I also thought I would explain how Kellen would get the hiccups everyday while I was pregnant with him. Well, Kellen interrupted me! We found this hilarious, I was crying from laughter!

First Public Outing!
We finally got out of the house & enjoyed some gorgeous weather this Memorial Day Weekend has brought us. Of course, we went to a sporting event...San Jose Giants! Kellen did absolutely fabulous! He had one meltdown due to the heat, but once he was cooled off, he was an angel. We brought a couple bottles Mommy had been saving up, and even Grand Dad got to feed him! Daddy was chosen to do a mid-inning contest, but needed more practice (he had to chip a golf ball into a kiddie pool & is furious he missed). He was up on the jumbotron & everything...working the crowd! It was a fun time, and we're looking forward to the next one (who can resist a kid friendly environment & free admission?).

Lookin' Cute
Here are just some fun pics of Kellen looking cute. All outfits were gifts (Thank you Cousin Nicole, Cousin Frankie, and Cousin Anna). Enjoy!

First Bottle
Since I plan to return to work in August, the pediatrician has told us we should introduce a bottle to him around 4 weeks old (about once a day) so he doesn't prefer Mommy over the bottle making my return to work difficult. He took to the bottle no problem, and Daddy loved being able to feed him. We have since given him two different brands of bottles & have served it warm & room temperature. He didn't seem to care one bit either way!! Thank goodness!!! Here is a picture of one of his feedings. This particular feeding he drank 5 1/2 ounces!!! At 4 weeks old, that's a huge amount! What a big boy!!!

Tummy Time!
I just got done taking video of Kellen working the Tummy Time mat (thank you Auntie Lisa). He's doing so well! Also, when you burp him over your shoulder, he pretty much keeps his head up the whole time. He's so darn cute, enjoy!!
Here are some still shots of him:

Our first two weeks as parents
Kellen is now 2 1/2 weeks old. Life as parents so far has been great. I think Kellen would say he's pretty darn comfortable & is fed well if he could talk. Kellen is still maintaining his calm demeanor which has been nice for Mommy & Daddy. He often stays wide awake without fussing for long stretches of time which is fun. He'll look us dead in the eye, and Jeremy & I often say we can't wait until he smiles at us. I just know he has a smile behind those eyes even though he can't show it yet. We know Kellen is aware of who Mommy & Daddy are. Often when he needs soothing, just the sound of our voices can calm him. He is a strong boy, and does very well with tummy time at such a young age. His head control is excellent!
At our two week of age appointment, Kellen now weighs 9 pounds 8 ounces, and is 21 1/4 inches. He is putting on weight very well.
We gave him his first "real" bath last night. He wasn't too fond of it, but we know he'll eventually love it! Once he's out & dried off, he is so calm & peaceful.
Kellen loves it when Daddy changes him - so much he has "christened" Daddy from both ends! Mommy has been lucky - although I probably just jinxed myself... He makes us crack up laughing all the time, his facial expressions are priceless.
Jeremy is now back to work, and he misses his boy a ton during the day. Mommy has been fine by hersef during the day without Daddy. It was daunting at first (especially since Daddy is the master soother), but as soon as I got through that first day, it was a relief that I could do it without too much trouble!

My Labor Story
Many of you have asked, "What was your labor like?" "How long did you push for?" Tell me the whole story!" Well, here it is...bear with me...
Since I was due April 22nd, I decided to call my dad's acupuncturist to see if she could perform a labor inducing session for me. I went in on Monday morning (the 26th) for my hour long session. We then scheduled sessions for each day of the week until induction day which was planned for the 30th. It could be coincidence, but early labor started about 5:20am Tuesday morning. I felt a strong cramp & looked at the clock. I waited to see if it would come back. Eight minutes later, sure enough - the same cramp feel. I waited four times before waking Jeremy. Once I told Jeremy he decided not to go to work even though we weren't sure how long this would take. My contractions started off consistent, and we were getting excited. I even called the acupuncturist & cancelled my Tuesday session. I decided to take a shower, and after the shower, my contractions became very sporadic & further and further apart.
Jeremy thought I should maybe call the acupuncturist back to reschedule. So I did, and went back at 2:00pm. On the way back from the session, my contractions came back about 6 minutes apart. We waited until we reached the recommended "5-1-1" (5 minutes apart lasting for one minute for an hour long), and headed to the hospital around 5:00pm. We got to the hospital & although the frequency was what they wanted, the monitor was showing that the contractions weren't strong enough, and I was only 3cm dilated & 80% effaced - I had been measuring about that for the last two weeks! So, the nurse offered me a shot to help ease the pain of the contraction that was also a sleep aid so I could get some rest. We went home & I quickly became drowsy. Unfortunately, my body transitioned into full blown labor so although drowsy, the pain medication was useless. So, here I am contracting every 3-4 minutes, and wanting to pass out between each one. Finally after 4 hours at home of deep breathing & lower back massages, I told Jeremy I couldn't take it anymore & we need to go to the hospital. Jeremy made me be sure this time as he knew I wanted to avoid being induced medically & if I hadn't progressed that they would most likely induce me when we returned. Well, they checked me (now about 10:00pm) & I was almost 8 cm!! The same nurse stated that the hardest part of labor is between 7 & 10cm and I was already doing it, so keep up the good work!
I asked for something to take the edge off, like fentinyl, but since I just had that other shot only 4 hours prior, they didn't want to give it to me just yet. So, they suggested I take a shower. So, in the shower I went. The nurse had a great set up. I faced away from the shower head and sat on a bench with a stability ball in my lap to rest my head on. They put wireless & waterproof monitors on me, and sprayed the hot water on my lower back. I was in there for about an hour like that. I started to get the urge to push. So, I got out of the shower & they checked me. I was 9cm! They asked if I wanted them to break my water, I said yes - they broke my water, and the next contraction I was at 10cm & ready to push. The time was now midnight & I was pushing with each contraction. About 2.5 hours later at 2:42am our baby had arrived. The delivering OB let Jeremy break the news to me that it was a boy, and we were simply full of emotion. Lots of kisses, I love yous, hugs, and tears. It was amazing!!!

Our Angel has Arrived!
Kellen James Lane was born into our lives at 2:42am on Wednesday April, 28th. He was 8lbs 5 oz and 21 inches long. He is absolutely perfect, and has big eyes, big hands, and big feet! We are adjusting to our new lives, but all in all, we couldn't be happier. So far his temperment is very easy going. He's a healthy eater and generally awakes just two times a night...for now anyway. Here are a few pictures.
